Gas

Gas is an important energy resource for Queensland. It fuels domestic and industrial needs and is playing an increasingly significant role as a fuel source for electricity generation.

The Department of Mines and Energy regulates and monitors policy and legislation affecting the Queensland gas sector. It also works with industry in identifying and proposing solutions to future strategic issues which may affect the gas industry and consumers.

The department oversees the Queensland Gas Scheme which is designed to diversify the State's energy mix towards the greater use of gas, assist in encouraging the development of new gas sources and infrastructure in Queensland, boost regional economic development and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the Queensland electricity sector.
