Residential Gas Installation Rebate Scheme
The Queensland Government is now offering a gas installation rebate of up to $500 to Queensland homeowners installing gas appliances replacing electric, and some non-electric appliances, in existing homes.
The rebate promotes gas as an efficient and reliable energy option for Queensland homes. Switching to gas also has environmental benefits - changing from electricity to gas for heating water and cooking will reduce a household's greenhouse gas emissions by approximately two tonnes a year.
The Department of Mines and Energy is implementing the Rebate Scheme via arrangements with participating gas retailers, who act as agents for the Government to deliver the rebate as a credit on the homeowner's gas bill.
Eligibility
You are eligible for the rebate if:
- you own the property where the gas appliance(s) are being installed
- the appliance(s) are being installed in an existing dwelling
- the property is situated in Queensland
- the appliance(s) are being installed in either a detached house; an attached dwelling (including a row house, terrace house, townhouse or villa unit) which is not located above or below another dwelling other than a private garage; or a relocatable home that is a fixed structure
- your gas supplier is participating in the scheme
- your gas appliance(s) are new and purchased on or after 7 September 2006
- you can provide copies of the appliance proof of purchase, and current Gas System Compliance Certificate
- your new gas appliance(s) are replacing existing electric appliance(s) (some exemptions may apply)
There are two categories of eligible gas appliances. To receive a rebate for appliances listed in Category 2, you must already have an installed gas hot water system, or be installing one. (There is no energy efficiency requirement for the existing system.)
- Category 1 - gas hot water system, with a minimum 5 star energy efficiency rating.
- Category 2 - gas cooktop (minimum 4 burner); gas oven; gas stove; internal gas space heater with a minimum 4 star energy efficiency rating, which is externally flued and complies with Australian Standard 4553; and gas clothes dryer with external flue.
