Electricity Retail Billing GSL Rebate Scheme
On 15 September 2008 the Minister for Mines and Energy made the new 'Electricity (Retail Billing Guaranteed Service Level Scheme) Code' under the provisions of the Electricity Act 1994. The new Code came into effect on 19 September 2008, being the date it was notified in the Gazette.
The new binding Code introduces a Guaranteed Service Level (GSL) Scheme for electricity retail billing to small customers, to provide greater incentives to electricity retailers to improve their billing systems, and to compensate customers for the inconvenience of being overcharged when a retailer gets it wrong.
Under the GSL Scheme, if a retailer issues an incorrect bill to a small customer and the retailer doesn't find and fix the error before the customer pays the bill, the retailer must give the customer a GSL rebate of up to $40 on the customer's next bill.
