United Kingdom / Australia Clean Coal Technologies Symposium
The British High Commission and the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation, Mines and Energy hosted the United Kingdom / Australia Clean Coal Technologies Symposium in Brisbane on 19 March 2009. The symposium which attracted 70 representatives from Government, industry, research institutes and universities, provided an opportunity to showcase the expertise in each country and foster collaboration on low emission coal technologies.
The symposium was a result of the joint statement in April 2008 where Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd and British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown agreed to foster collaboration on clean energy technology research through their respective research institutions.
Both the British Government and the Queensland Government have accepted invitations from the Australian Government to join the Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute.
