Authority to prospect

Authority to prospect (ATP)

To explore for petroleum (oil, coal seam gas, natural gas etc) in Queensland, an adult, or a company or registered body under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cwlth), must have been granted an ATP by the Minister for Mines and Energy.

An application for an ATP is made in response to the Minister publishing a 'call for tenders'. The call for tenders is published periodically in the Queensland Government Gazette and may also be published in the Queensland Government Mining Journal. You may be notified of impending land release areas, as part of the call for tenders, or request that the Minister release available land as part of a call for tenders, by emailing petroleum@dme.qld.gov.au.
