Medicals

Prior to working on a coal mine, a worker must undergo a medical examination in accordance with the Coal Mine Workers' Health Scheme.  The medical examination must be paid for by the employer.  The examination includes an assessment of the worker's ability to perform the job in which they have been employed at the coal mine, and therefore cannot be completed until the worker's job is known.  This medical examination must be performed by a Nominated Medical Advisor (NMA), a doctor nominated by a mine operator to conduct health assessments. Current information can be obtained from the Medical Records Officer at Safety and Health, Department of Mines and Energy (phone: 3239 6897). Please note that a coal mine workers health assessment is valid up to 5 years.
