Mines Inspectorate


The Mines Inspectorate is charged with ensuring that acceptable safety and health standards are established and practised within the mining and quarrying industries.

It establishes safety and health legislation and standards, undertakes audits and inspections, and promotes and participates in safety and health education programs.

It seeks to create an environment that promotes the safety and health of industry workers and all who are affected by the industries' operations.

The Mines Inspectorate provides statewide safety and health coverage of the mining and quarrying industries through regional centres in Brisbane, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville, Atherton, and Mount Isa and a central office at Mineral House in 41 George Street, Brisbane.

Mission

The mission of the Mines Inspectorate is to continually improve safety and health standards, practices and performance in the mining and quarrying industries by implementing:

  • pro-active safety and health strategies;
  • client focussed service delivery;
  • continuous improvement of processes;
  • commitment and professional behaviour in our staff; and
  • effective community education.
